A tropical, deciduous tree native to South America.

Trunks are covered in conical thorns.

Striking large flowers speckled pink, and orchid like in late summer to autumn.

Seeds split open when mature releasing a white silky material.

Best in full sun, tolerant of light frosts, prefers well drained soil.
