Description: 

NZ native plant that is characterised by its milky sap.

It has creeping rhizomes from which red stems bearing narrow oblong blue grey leaves arise.

The leaves become more crowded towards the top of the stem, where contarsting maroon bracts surround the tiny true flower.

Grows well in a sunny well drained site. Moderately vigorous so needs room to spread or regular removal of the new shoots.
